Dr. John E. Hilke received his doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 2003. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed his residency in ocular disease and low vision at the hospitals of the VA NJ healthcare system in Lyons and East Orange, NJ. In 2003, Dr. Hilke presented research at the American Academy of Optometry's annual meeting in Dallas, TX. 

In addition to comprehensive pediatric and adult eye care, Dr. Hilke has vast experience with a variety of contact lens fitting modalities, including daily disposable, multifocal, and rigid gas permeable ("hard") contact lenses. He is certified to provide therapeutic treatment of eye infections, such as corneal abrasions and conjunctivitis: (pink eye). He also has extensive experience treating glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and ocular surface disease (dry eye). Co-management of surgical procedures including cataracts and LASIK are also his areas of expertise.

In practice at the Hillsborough Vision Center since 2004, Dr. Hilke's philosophy is patient-centered, meeting the individual visual and ocular health needs of the patient. He prefers a "hand's on" approach to your eye care needs, minimizing the use of technicians and allowing you more individual attention from the doctor himself. He also has donated to a variety of township youth organizations.
